Ten Beauty And Health Resolutions Every Woman Can Keep!

o you can't lose those extra 20 pounds in 30 days - or hit the gym three days a week like you wish you could. But that doesn't mean you can't face the New Year with some resolve to be a better, healthier, even prettier you in 2006.

In fact, Yale professor Dr. David Katz says we should lighten up on strict resolutions and approach the New Year with reasonable expectations. Doing so will not only help you stick to your resolve, but the small changes you make can lead to bigger changes down the road - and an ambitious desire to improve your life in many more ways.

"If you let the small things add up they will add up to meaningful changes in the overall pattern of your life, " says Katz, director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center, and co-author of "Stealth Health: How to sneak age-defying, disease-fighting habits into your life without really trying!"

To help get you started on those small but meaningful changes, here are 10 fast and easy health and beauty resolutions - little things you can do to positively change the way you feel -and the way you look - in 2006! Try one - or all ten - and I promise you'll see the difference way before spring!

1. Never go to bed wearing make-up.
No matter how tired you are, no matter how late it is, take just 2 minutes to slather on and tissue off a facial cleanser and your skin will thank you. Not only will it help remove surface bacteria that could encourage breakouts, most make up is drying to the skin so removing it will help reduce wrinkling while you sleep. If you can squeeze in 30 more seconds for a quick application of moisturizer, you'll see a definite difference in your face in 7 days or less!

2. Never leave the house without sunscreen on your face.
I know . . .you've heard it all before. But I promise you that taking this two minute step will not only yield enormous health benefits (like reducing your risk of skin cancer) it's also the single most important anti aging skin care step you can take. It's true - the sun IS the number one cause of wrinkles and aging skin. And sunscreen - well it's the biggest gun in your wrinkle defense arsenal! To make using it easy and automatic, look for either a moisturizer or a foundation with an SPF 15.

3. Protect your lips - and look younger and sexier!
Want those juicy, sexy, full Angelina lips? You can have them without a lot of muss and fuss IF you protect your pucker with a lip gloss or balm containing sunscreen. When lips are hydrated and protected they will automatically look fuller - and you'll look younger! You can capitalize on the protection if you swap out a matte lipstick for a high wattage gloss in a medium warm pink tone.

4. Whiten your teeth.
If you haven't done it yet, this is the one resolution you MUST try! Not only is it the quickest, most inexpensive way to take years off your appearance, it can boost your confidence and give you that polished, well groomed look rich girl - for just pennies a day.

5. Clean out your make-up bag/ bathroom drawer/ vanity - and toss any products you've had more than a year. Not only can this help prevent potentially serious eye or skin infections, it will force you to re-evaluate your make up needs - and every woman needs to do that at least once a year! When you head out to the stores to buy items, step out of the box to try a new color or a new make up product. If you always wore lipstick, try gloss, if you only use neutral shadows try a deeper shade for a smokier look. Mix it up - and have fun finding a new look!

6. Keep up with your hair coloring.
The 2 inches of "roots" look popularized on "Sex and the City" is going, going, gone! In it's place is more natural, highlighted color . If you're wearing a shade you just can't bear to change, make sure you touch up those roots every 4 weeks. If the time - or the expense - doesn't permit that kind of attention, then think about having your hair professionally highlighted and low lighted - a mixture of many shades and tones of basic colors like honey blonde, or chestnut brown. The look lasts for up to six months without a touch up.

7. Trade in your shower gel for a moisturizing bar of soap.
Did you ever wonder why the ingredient label on your shower gel is 2 inches long and filled with chemical terms you can't pronounce - while the ingredients on an average bar of beauty soap is just one sentence? Most gels contain chemicals, dyes, foaming agents, and lots of drying alcohol - all things your skin doesn't need. Try a daily shower with a moisturizing soap instead - and see your entire body complexion come alive in just 14 days or less. And - you'll save a ton of money too!

8. Wear a bronzer all year long.
Most gals think of a powder bronzer as a summertime treat. But it's also the Hollywood secret that keeps many an aging starlet from looking her age - or letting on how little sleep she really gets! Just a quick pouf of powder on the bridge of your nose, the tops of your cheers, and round the outer rim of your forehead will give you a glow that will leave everyone wondering . . .is she in love . . . again ?

9. Take a calcium/vitamin D supplement every day.
While many women believe calcium is only important if you're pregnant - or post menopausal - the truth is gals of all ages need this vital mineral to maintain a strong and healthy skeleton - and protect against broken bones. What you may not realize: Studies show women in their 20's need this protection as much as women in their 50's! But that's not all! The latest research shows getting adequate calcium may also help keep skin looking younger longer! And since we're all staying out the sun, the vitamin D is essential to make sure the calcium you take is absorbed. Try it for a month - you'll see a difference!

10. Wear fragrance every day!
Even if you're just spending the day doing laundry or cleaning the bathroom, studies show that wearing your favorite fragrance is a great way to lift your mood and keep energy levels high. Starting your day with a dousing of fragrance will also make you feel special - and that can affect how you act and react during the entire day. If you can't afford to use your favorite pricey designer fragrance every day, look for scented body lotions or anoint your pulse points with a fragrant bath oil. For an inexpensive scented body powder purchase any corn-starch based baby powder, pour into an air tight plastic container and spritz the contents several times with your favorite fragrance. Close the lid, shake it - and voila - when you open it you'll have a whole container of perfumed talc for pennies!

Health and beauty advice

here is nothing more wonderful for your looks than beauty rest. I always remember my mom and my aunts saying they need their beauty rest, but I never understood what sleep had to do with looking good. Now I know that sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your body inside and out. Proper sleep is essential to peace of mind and a healthy body. The healthier you are on the inside, the more radiant you will be on the outside. It is as simple as that!

If you want to get your beauty rest, you have to make sure you are getting enough of it. I have been having problems sleeping myself, and you can see it in my face. I’m not sure what the problem is but you can definitely tell I have not been getting enough beauty rest. I look tired and worn out, and it seems that even makeup isn’t helping much. If you are having troubles sleeping, it is going to show. You can always tell the difference between someone getting peaceful beauty rest and someone who tosses and turns all night long. Make sure you are getting seven or eight hours a night. You also need a good mattress for proper beauty rest. If you have an old, lumpy mattress, you aren’t going to sleep well. I am beginning to think this is my problem, and I am going to have to spring for a new mattress before too much more time passes. If your mattress is way too soft, or perhaps too firm, you are not going to sleep well. You may also have a problem if your bed is too small. If you are sleeping in a full size with your husband, you both may be having trouble getting enough beauty rest. You need enough space to spread out in order to get good, restful sleep.

If you have a good bed, but can’t figure out why you aren’t getting enough beauty rest, you should consider your environment. Your bedroom should be for sleeping. If you are looking at clutter, or piles of work you have to do the next day, you aren’t going to sleep well. Keep work out of your bedroom, and keep the clutter picked up. Also, consider if light or sound are interfering with your beauty rest. Wear a sleeping mask and get a fan or white noise machine to eliminate noises that might be keeping you awake at night.

Most people into beauty skin care are fairly health-conscious people. They use skin care products because they want their bodies to look good. People who want their bodies to look good also go to the gym, eat healthy, and try to live a healthy lifestyle in general. A lot of them are a bit overdriven in their career lives, it is true, but besides that they do what they can.

Nonetheless, many of these skin care products are actually toxic. People don't really realize what they are putting on their skin, but the cosmetic skin products that seem to make your skin look younger are actually aging you. Many of them contain harmful oils that can clog up your pores. Other ones contain fragrances that you could be allergic to. Even if you use organic skin care, you are not necessarily safe. Unless you are very conscious about what you are putting on your body, you may be doing more harm than good.

Health is internal beauty

Health Is Internal Beauty
By Tonya Zavasta

Excerpted from the book "Your Right to Be Beautiful: How to
Halt the Train of Aging and Meet the Most Beautiful You" by
Tonya Zavasta. The book is available at:
http://www.beautifulonraw.com

Jean Kerr, American author and playwright wrote: “I’m tired of
all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That’s deep
enough. What do you want an adorable pancreas?”—

Jean Kerr was closer to the truth than she might have realized.
Every outside organ of the human body is eligible to be called
beautiful, but because internal organs are ordinarily seen only
by surgeons, they get excluded from the beauty contest. If our
internal organs were observed, we would describe them in terms
of attractiveness, and normal color and shape would be
considered beautiful. You need only compare pictures of normal
healthy internal organs with pictures of their infected and
diseased counterparts in the medical books to convince yourself
that health and beauty are synonymous.

A healthy colon looks like evenly braided muscles. On the other
hand, unhealthy colons are deformed: twisted and looped in some
parts, ballooned and engorged in others, as revealed by barium
X-rays. Visit a colon therapist, if only to observe the pictures
of unhealthy colons and see for yourself how ugly one can be on
the inside.

The blood of a healthy person is also beautiful. The red blood
cells are uniformly round. The blood of a body full of toxins is
contaminated with pathological bacteria, abnormal proteins, and
parasites. When red blood corpuscles clump together, the
condition is called Rouleau or “sticky” blood. Rouleau, this
clumpy, unattractive blood, appears 5 to 20 years before
symptoms of illness present themselves. It is an early messenger
of hundreds of degenerative diseases. Conglomerates of red blood
cells cannot access the fine capillaries of the body. Rouleau is
particularly damaging to the organs of the head, in particular
the eyes, ears, and scalp. A diet high in meat and dairy
products increases the stickiness of your platelets. Blood that
becomes sticky is a sure precursor of blood clots, strokes, and
heart attacks.

The arterial pipelines in a healthy circulatory system are
clean and clear from obstructions. In healthy arteries, the
inner lining, called the intima, is smooth, supple, and without
cracks. A cross-section of a normal coronary artery shows no
arterial thickening or blood-blocking plaque deposits.

An unhealthy circulatory system paints an entirely different
picture. The middle muscular layer of the artery can no longer
fully recoil after a pulse wave has expanded the vessel.
Elasticity of the artery walls is reduced, and cracks and
hollows appear. They catch calcium, cholesterol deposits, fat
accumulations, and clusters of platelets. Cholesterol deposits
roughen the inner surfaces and damage the walls of the arteries.
At first, plaque build-up does not cause discomfort--it is just
ugly. But later, thick, clogged bloodstream results in coronary
arteries becoming occluded with fatty buildup, which effects
circulation and causes deterioration of the connective tissues.
Deterioration and abnormal hardening of the arteries result in a
process called arteriosclerosis and may cause heart disease,
stroke, and hypertension.

The body often displays real ingenuity faced with substances it
cannot metabolize or eliminate. It breaks them down and
distributes them to remote areas of the body away from vital
organs to minimize harm. The body takes the poisons
out-of-the-way but not necessarily out of sight. The toxic
wastes are pushed towards the peripheral organs, which happen to
be the skin and every other organ that we can see on the
outside.

External deformities are direct manifestations of internal
pathologies. Ugly ropes of varicose veins, puffy faces, and
cellulite are telling tales about your inside condition. Every
pimple, psoriasis, or pigment change on your skin is in fact a
reflection of some organ struggling to do its job. Every bulge,
boil, or swelling is a sign that the body is pushing out some
toxins in its effort to protect itself.

The term “natural beauty” has been misused and abused beyond
restoration. Because there is no natural beauty without 100%
natural food, the beauty that will emerge on the raw food diet I
call Rawsome Beauty. Our external beauty is at its best when our
internal organs are in the best possible shape, form, and color.
Beautiful is not something extra the body needs: to be beautiful
both inside and out is the natural state of one’s body.

The vitality of internal organs, working properly, transcends
your skin and brings a radiance to your face. This is when
beauty does penetrate the skin. So when we admire sparkling
eyes, fabulous skin, and lustrous hair, in a way we are admiring
the teamwork of a healthy liver, colon, kidneys, etc. How
profound the direct meaning of the phrase "beauty comes from
within" really is.

Health and beauty are considered to be chronological losses. In
my books I will convince you they don’t have to be. It is
biologically possible to look beautiful at any age. I intend to
prove that beauty is not an accident; beauty is your birthright,
it can be yours through the right daily choices, food you put in
your mouth being the most important one. You can dramatically
improve your appearance and do it 100 percent on your own
without expensive products, plastic surgery or costly cosmetics.
